1. Can i get a backstory on the band/ band biography?
We started out in late 2008. The following year saw the recording of a demo and a couple of months later we recorded what now is known as “The Seth Avalanche” EP (our latest release). After that another EP was recorded in 2010 (Apollonian Eyes, will be released soon!) and since then we have been focusing on our full length (release in 2013!). It’s been the same four members from the start to now. And an interesting four years four sure (so far).
2. What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music? What message do you want to send?
Several. It all depends and differs a bit between the albums. From just an interesting story to some really serious issues where Nils is preaching about the true way of life (or rather trying to bluntly force the message upon the listener. I think). Don’t think there is only one single message but several. But since I’m not the lyricist of the band I can’t really answer that.
3. How have the gigs you guys been doing been?
Really great. Usually people get into it and there is a lot of energy being released when we play a show. But then again, since I am the drummer I don’t usually see or experience all the stuff that’s going on during a show. If it’s a good show and the response is loud and energetic enough it might even reach me and pierce my little cage at the back of the stage.
4. What equipment do you guys use?
Nothing fancy. Basic drums, guitar and base with vocals on top (like the lemon on top of a really good shrimp sandwich).
5. What bands have influenced your band and its sound?
Several through the brief existence of the band. But there a couple of classic acts that we have listened to a lot long before starting the band. Classic examples are: Exploited, Dödheimsgard, Motörhead, Emperor, and of course real greats such as Iron Maiden and ZZ Top, to name a few! So many great bands out there!
6. Do you remember your first show and what was it like?
Yes. It was good. We actually played two times in the same evening so the second time was much better (but technically it was still our first show!) One horrible anecdote though: We slipped one song up and had to abort it. This eventually happened the next time we attempted to play it. The song is aptly named “Nemesis” and have never been recorded (but attempts have been made in the studio…)
7. What made you guys decide to form a band?
Why not? No but seriously, many of us (all?) in the band have an urge to play music in one form or the other. Every musician is always looking for that constellation or place where it feels right I think. The triggering factor in this case was a death metal show some of us attended. After that the stars just aligned and crooked twisted paths crossed each other if you know what I mean.
8. What is your opinion on sites posting your guys material and other bands material?
Not really sure. You mean “Illegally” I guess? Since we are a very small band it can be good exposure and we want to get the name out there. If people enjoy our music that’s all fine and dandy. It’s a bummer for our record company I guess and people that try to make it work. I understand what time we live in. I do however detest people who do not support bands in anyway. People that enjoy and are really into to the music but don’t really appreciate the work behind it. That goes for other creative work as well, not only music.
9. Is there any bands that you guys enjoyed playing with more then the others?
Yes..
10. How do you guys feel about the classifications in metal? like deathcore, metalcore and other subgenres and how some get a negative rep.
Well it’s all getting a bit too mixed up I think. And I don’t really have time to understand it all. It was probably easier to have a unique style and a more local sound before. Now there are just so many bands and everything is available through the web. Every now and then there appears an act that has something special and that’s what you’re looking for. I can see how some of these monikers can get a bad name though. Say that you hear a couple of bands and think they truly suck. Then you find out that they claim to play something called “metalcore” for example. The natural conclusion for most people would then be that metalcore sucks I guess. Of course things are not as black and white as that (well some actually are…) I guess all these genres, sub-genres and post-sub-genres are good in a more historical way. To keep track of which bands became popular and influenced the new acts (and made metal take a turn for the worse). So all in all; I do not really know and it actually has very little to do with the actual music.
11. What song do you enjoy playing the most?
It always changing. Shoot Them All use to be a lot of fun because of the rolling chorus and the dynamics of the song. I also enjoy a new track from our upcoming release called “Vlad Tepes”. It really grabs the audience and there is always a chilling and reverent mood when we play it live.
12. When not doing things with the band, what can you guys be seen doing?
Nothing. Very mundane stuff. Like making videogames or building a new house to live in.
13. Your biggest band moment?
Probably making the full length album. It’s been a long process and we are very proud of it. That or some nice comment online haha. Or if you ask another member; when DIOs guitar player said that we rocked!
14. What is your opinion on the current state of metal?
Can’t really say that I know it. There is so much going on. Some things I like a lot and other I find truly terrible. There are many old bands that still release quality albums. All in all though I have to say that there are way too many copy cat bands out there that just don’t have the fire in them. Sad but true.
15. How did you guys come up with your band name?
We found it by chance. It is at least pretty unique and ones we adopted it there was no turning back. It was just waiting for us to use it I think.
16. What can the fans expect to see from you in the future?
By the end of the year an ep called APOLLONIAN EYES will be released through Abyss Records. (If the gods are willing this will also be the time when the Infanteri Regiment Herwarth von Bittenfeldt No 13 re-emerges from their war torn resting places and yet again unleashes madness upon unsuspecting masses!) Next year will see the full length album (containing 13 tracks) which is another beast all together so be prepared for the grand PLAN! And hopefully we will be out touring next year. We are also planning to do some very special shows in connection with the release next year. Keep your eyes out for those.
