1. Start off by introducing yourself and what is your role in your band?

Hello! My name is Johan Reinholdz and I play guitar, bass, and other various instruments in Nonexist.

2. So Nonexist has returned after quite a long hiatus, why reform now?

Because we really felt like writing more music and also playing live which we haven’t done before. I’ve always had a plan to do a second Nonexist-album and actually wrote a whole album which I more or less discarded ´cause it wasn’t good enough. Then in 2009-2010 I came up with some songs that pleased me more so then I got stoked about doing a new album.

3. Tell me a little about the other members of the band? And do any of you play in other bands?

It’s me and Johan Liiva – ex Carnage/Furbowl/Arch Enemy on vocals doing the band in the studio. Besides Nonexist I also play guitar in Andromeda and Skyfire. Then live we have Linus Abrahamson from my other band Andromeda on bass. He also plays in Edge of a Circle by the way. And then on drums and guitar we have Joakim Strandberg-Nilsson and Johan Aldgård, both from the band Faithful Darkness.

4. Tell me a little about the releases you have and where they are available for purchase?

We’ve put out two albums: “Deus Deceptor” in 2002 by New Hawen/Century Media/Toy’s Factory and “From My Cold Dead Hands” in 2012/2013 by Pivotal/Trooper Entertainment/Abyss Rec. You can buy “Deus Deceptor” here: And here are links for buying “From My Cold Dead Hands”:

5. Tell us about some great shows Nonexist or any other bands you have performed with over the years?

We only just recenly gathered a full live-line-up so we’ve only made one gig so far- at the Scorched Tundra Festival in Gothenburg, Sweden. It was great fun so we’re dying to play more live.

6. Do you have any amusing stories from when you recorded your albums or when you were on the road?

I think I’ll have to get back to you about this when we’ve played more gigs, hehe. Not much to tell yet!

7. Name some of the bands that have influenced your playing style and then name some of the bands that people think influenced you but didn’t?

Some of the bands that have influenced us are Slayer, Morbid Angel, Merciless, Metallica, Sepultura, Iron Maiden, Exhorder, Edge of Sanity, At the Gates, Soilwork, Terrorizer, Emperor, Dimmu Borgir, Pantera, Massacre, Megadeth, Dan Swanö, Dissection, Opeth, Dismember, Sisters of Mercy, Black Sabbath, Fields of the Nephilim, Mercyful Fate. Bands people think influenced us but haven’t? Hmm, dunno… I think most references in reviews have been pretty accurate actually.

8. What are some of your all time favorite albums?

The Cure – “Disintegration”, Captain Beyond – “S/T”, The Doors – “S/T”, Metallica – “Master of Puppets”, Atheist – “Unquestionable Presence”, Depeche Mode – “Violator”, Muse – “HAARP”, Marillion – “Clutching at Straws”, Yes – “Close to the Edge”, Merciless – “Unbound”, Megadeth – “Rust in Peace”, Pantera – “Vulgar Display of Power” and a few hundred more…

9. Name some of the all time worst or overated Metal albums in your opinion?

Interesting! I like these type of questions. Let’s see… I’d say the first Ghost-album. Total crap. I really like old-school hardrock/heavymetal but to me Ghost are just weak and lame. Especially the singer. Volbeat also sucks big time. Venom – “Welcome to Hell” and “Black Metal”. Don’t know if you count bands like Def Leppard and Kiss and such? I think Def Leppard – “Hysteria” is painfully bad. It’s like cotton candy in music-form. The list could go on and on but lastly I’d like to mention Mayhem – “De Mysteriis dom Sathanas” and anything by Helloween and Hammerfall.

10. Let everyone know what the band has planned for the future.

We are currently writing our third album and most of the songs are done, except for the lyrics. We will start recording sometime this winter. We also have some local shows coming up. Gigs abroad we have to see about. We’d love to get out there though! There are Nonexist-songs out for downloading to Rock Band via Rhythm Authors, check it here: Search for Nonexist at “Songs”. Hopefully we will make more songs available for Rock Band soon! Thanks for you support and interest! Cheers!
