BANE (Serbia) “The Acausal Fire” DIGI CD review

And here we have yet another Dissection clone! In fact, this is an unfair statement really, as Serbia’s Bane offer so much more.

However, after a short orchestral opener ‘The End of Humanity’ kicks in, in a very Swedish melodic black/death style fashion and it’s clear that Bane have taken a lot from bands like Dissection, Necrophobic and Naglfar.

In fact this is very much more a black metal album than anything else. Production is crystal clear, though without losing any of its punch. Slight reverberation on the guitars produces a thick tone providing great atmosphere when the wall of sound hits you. Pace is lightning speed with tremolo riffs, both black and melodic swathed amongst a barrage of blasts and double kick.

There’s no shortage of technicality here, with all instruments performed perfectly to the highest standard. There are moments of beautiful acoustic melodies too which scream Dissection’s ‘Storm of the Lights Bane’.

Vocals cover pretty much all bases, from traditional black metal screams, to growls and everything in between, including some clean vocal passages too. Bane seem to have hit the nail firmly on the head with this album. In fact, it’s really hard to find fault with this release and amongst bands like Thulcandra and Black Horizons, Bane strive to keep alive a sound that so many people love.

Aside from the obvious homage to the Swedish black metal sound, Bane somehow manage to create an album which does have spurts of originality in the riffs, melodies and song construction which sets them a cut above the rest.

Highlights include ‘The End of Humanity’, ‘In Endless Silence’ and ‘Existence In Denial’.

The album ends with a near perfect rendition of Dissection’s ‘Night’s Blood’.

Rating: 9/10
