MAAX (U.S.) “Unholy Rock & Roll” DIGI CD review

by Terrorizer Magazine

By Guy Strachan

It’s refreshing in this day and age of splitting everything into a microcosm of genres that a band paints their descriptive sound in broad strokes, but given the urgency of the content, Maax have little interest in anything other than forging ahead with fist-banging mayhem. Aside from opening gambit ‘Coldest Steel’ that is biting, as-close-as-you-like elegy aimed at recreating the snarling rage of Teutonic uber-thrash, musically ‘Unholy Rock ‘N’ Roll’ pretty much lives up to its title, veering between (slightly) restrained thrash (see ‘Black Thrash ‘Em All) and the proverbial death ‘n’ roll, albeit with the resulting concotion heavily infused with a Motorhead swagger over an Entombed groove.
