ETERNAL HELCARAXE (Ireland) “Against All Odds” CD review

By Daniel Müller

Helcaraxe is a term derived from JRR Tolkien’s “The Silmarillion”. The band is from Ireland, was founded in 2003 and has released a demo and an EP. “Against All Odds” is the debut album. It has a dreamy piano intro and seven other songs, all of whom have extra length and between five and eleven minutes are located. Mangy, in these black metallers, but really only the vocals. Even at high speeds and double bass, the songs are always melodic and have some Viking Metal atmosphere. It has somehow always rainy and stormy floods ship pictures in your head when you listen to the sound of this combo. The album can be heard through well, even as background music when you read such a book. Because really exciting is “Against All Odds” do not become, even if it is not really bad or boring. The highlight of the album is the eleven-minute title track, where the band once again all together, what makes the band’s sound: atmospheric, beautiful, dreamy melodies, hoarse voice, sometimes even acoustic guitars, here and there a few breaks to loosen up, and every now and then high speed. A plus point for Eternal Helcaraxe is definitely that they sound completely independent and I can not compare with another band. Is not a thriller, but you can hear.

Rating: 7/10
